The 60-40 portfolio assumes a 60% allocation to shares and a 40% allocation to bonds. Typically, when share markets record losses, the bond market records gains – protecting investors from the full extent of losses on shares.
The 2022 calendar year has been very challenging for investors – mainly as bond markets and share markets have both recorded negative returns at the same time.
